Not at all! Our tour guide training is designed for people from all backgrounds.

A Tour Director leads multi-day journeys and manages the entire guest experience, while a Tour Guide focuses on delivering rich, local storytelling experiences over shorter timeframes. At ITMI, you can train for both paths.

On the Road MasterClass

Once enrolled, you’ll receive access to our list of participating tour operators. Here’s how the process works:

  1. Explore and Choose: Visit the tour operator’s website and select the tour that inspires you.
  2. Submit Your Choice to ITMI: Let us know which tour you’d like to book.
  3. Price Confirmation: ITMI will contact the tour operator to:
    • Verify your eligibility.
    • Confirm availability and determine if any discounts or special rates are applicable.
  4. Finalize Booking: Once everything is confirmed:
    • ITMI will provide the tour operator with a credit card.
    • You will then work directly with the tour operator to complete your booking, manage payment details, and review cancellation terms.

Note: All bookings are governed by the tour operator’s terms and cancellation policies, not ITMI’s.

Important: Unless otherwise approved, tours must be booked at least 60 days in advance and paid according to the tour operator’s guidelines.

What happens if I cancel my tour? Will I get a refund?

  • Tour-Related Cancellations: Any cancellations or refunds must be handled directly with the tour operator and are subject to their specific policies.
  • Course Fees: Tuition for the On the Road MasterClass is non-refundable regardless of tour cancellation.

Please review the operator’s cancellation terms carefully before finalizing your booking.

You have up to one year from the date of your ITMI MasterClass enrollment to select and book your tour.

Nope! ITMI takes care of the entire verification and eligibility process for you. You’ll only begin working directly with the tour operator after your tour and pricing are confirmed.

Yes! Occasionally, tour partners offer last-minute deals or special promotions. ITMI will share these opportunities with you and our alumni network as they become available. These may even allow you to bring a guest at a discounted rate.

Yes! With the tour operator’s permission, you may be invited to give a short, engaging storytelling presentation during your tour. It’s a great way to build confidence and connect with your group. We’ll ensure the presentation is brief, relevant, and adds value to the guest experience.

Absolutely. The On the Road MasterClass gives you hands-on professional exposure in the travel industry. Feel free to highlight your tour, presentation, and experience as a part of your training.
