A Tour Director is essentially a project manager “on the road”. They wear many hats and confirm details for the trip (hotels, meals, transportation); they provide entertaining interaction to create a fun, memorable trip for their guests and they share their love of the areas they travel through.
A Tour Director most often leads groups of people on multi-day tours to a geographical location either domestically or abroad. They can travel on different modes of transportation (motorcoaches, boats, trains). At times they work with Tour Guides who give specialized commentary in specific cities, and they give general commentary themselves. Generally, their guests remain with them for a set duration of time, but occasionally, “modular trips” have guests that leave or join over the course of a trip.
The Tour Director can go by many names: Travel Director, Group Leader, Adventure Guide and Course Leader, but it’s all the same role, with the specific requirements defined by the company and brand you represent.
