Ending Child Prostitution in our Life Time

February 17, 2013
Can the travel and tour industry make a difference in eliminating Child Prostitution and trafficking around the world? Carol Smolenski has bet the past 22 years that it can. Carol has been one of the strongest proponents to stop child trafficking through the organization she co-founded in the US called ECPAT.

The sexual exploitation of children is a serious problem in the world and in the United States there are nearly 300,000 children at risk. Since 1991, ECPAT-USA has led the charge to protect three types of children:

  • Children who are sexually exploited by Americans who travel abroad
  • Children who are trafficked to the United States from other countries
  • American children who are trafficked and exploited within the USA

ECPAT is all regions of the world. Please look and see how you can make a difference.

Tour Operators and Directors come together in Albuquerque to witness ITMI signing The Code.

December 16, 2012

ITMI is proud that AnnaMaria Cardinalli will be a part of its Code signing ceremony in Albuquerque on January 30th, 2013. Ms. Cardinalli served as part of a U.S. Military Human Terrain Team in Afghanistan, where she was assigned to research the sexual practices of the Pashtun. Her investigation and subsequent report brought to light the prevalent sexual abuse of young boys, and as Sara Carter described it in the Washington Examiner, the “vast gulf between U.S. and Afghan attitudes about homosexuality and pedophilia.”

Ms. Cardinalli’s experiences in Afghanistan have made her an outspoken advocate for the protection of children from sexual abuse. Her book, currently titled “Crossing the Wire,” relating her experiences, is slated for release in spring 2013. Ms. Cardinalli holds a Ph.D. in Theology from Notre Dame University. Her musical performances include a solo recital at the Kennedy Center, appearances for the Prince of Spain and Pope John Paul II, and multiple performances of the Concierto de Aranjuez with various orchestras.
