Tourism Cares for International Tour Management Institute Graduate
Non-profit awards Dr Bill Newton-Kathy Neville Scholarship to Sarah Fausett of Longmont, CO
Canton, Mass. (August 25, 2009 )
Tourism Cares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting responsible tourism within the tourism industry,
awarded the Dr. Bill Newton – Kathy Neville Scholarship, (part of the National Tour Association Scholarship Fund),
in the amount of $500, to Sarah Fausett of Longmont, Colorado. Each year, the prestigious scholarships are presented
to deserving travel, tourism and hospitality students from across the United States and Canada.
“Tourism Cares is delighted to present this scholarship to Sarah in recognition of her commitment to her travel, tourism,
and hospitality education,” said Bruce Beckham, Executive Director at Tourism Cares. “Thanks to the generous donors whose
contributions have made this scholarship award possible, motivated students and aspiring industry professionals, like Sarah,
are rewarded for their excellence and encouraged to pursue their future endeavors in this industry,” he added.
In addition to the monetary award, Fausett will be given the opportunity to attend the Tourism Cares Experience the
Industry Student Program at the National Tour Association's Annual Convention, which is held mid-November in Reno, Nevada.
At the event, students shadow mentors, who are travel industry veterans, during business appointments; participate in roundtable
discussions about career paths; and take advantage of networking and learning opportunities.
Fausett’s initial interest in the tourism and hospitality industry developed as she moved out of her rural Northwestern hometown and began
learning about new ethnicities, countries, and cultures. She had a chance to travel to several continents, and taught English in
China for an extensive period of time. In five years, she envisions herself giving tours that will educate others on how to preserve
the planet, and protect endangered species and ancient historical sites.
“The Dr. Bill Newton-Kathy Neville Scholarship will allow me the financial breathing room to wait out the recession and help me
with the cost of the International Tour Management Institute Symposium,” Fausett said.
Fausett, a December 2008 graduate of the International Tour Management Institute, is pursuing her career as a Certified Tour Director.
Tourism Cares is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that benefits society by preserving the travel experience for
future generations by awarding grants to natural, cultural, and historic sites worldwide; by awarding academic and
professional development scholarships to students of hospitality and tourism; and by organizing volunteer restoration efforts to
